High Purity Reagent for SCR Applications
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems must use a nitrogen source like anhydrous ammonia, aqueous ammonia solutions, or high purity urea solutions to cause the NOx reduction reaction across the catalyst surface. Of these reagents, high purity urea solutions are, by far, the safest and easiest to handle. Ammonia, in any form, is a highly regulated substance, which is listed as "highly dangerous" in the concentrated forms that are typically used by industry. Urea is not listed as a hazardous material by any known government agency.
Fuel Tech markets two special grades of urea reagent for SCR applications: NOxOUT® SCR3200 and NOxOUT® SCR4000, with respective urea concentrations of 32% and 40% by weight. Benefits include:
- Manufacture of reagent to precise concentrations for consistent operation
- High-quality production, which reduces catalyst poisons and potential injector problems
